Chisinau, 9 December /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today participated in the tenth National Anti-corruption Conference titled "Break the chain of corruption." At the event, the sides analysed the latest developments in the fight against this scourge, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
"We may endlessly complain about the imperfection of the legal framework, the lack of tools or that we do not have enough money, saying that this was why we were unable to finalise certain files. But in reality, we did not manage to convince the society and foreign partners that we perceive problems just as they are and that we have a systemic solution," said Iurie Leanca. The prime minister also spoke about the fact that he had met many citizens who complained about corruption during the electoral campaign.
"For me, this is a very strong signal on behalf of society: it is time to say that it is enough. We have reached a critical limit, and if we do not change anything, there will be no chance to create a functional society in Moldova. We are obliged to turn into account the last chance Moldovan citizens gave us - to form a new government, a new majority and understand that we have no right to govern as we have previously did", added the head of the Cabinet.
The prime minister referred to the example of Ukraine: "There, the pro-European forces were able to get 90 per cent of the votes in parliamentary elections. Besides, the Ukrainians understood another simple thing - to bring EU experts to key positions. The solution is for us to ask for greater support from the American and European friends. "
The National Anti-Corruption Conference will last three days. It was held in Moldova ten years ago, for the first time ever, on the occasion of the International Anti-corruption Day, marked on 9 December. Traditionally, within these fora, countries assess their progress in preventing and combating corruption and develop solutions to strengthen anti-corruption efforts at the national level.
