UN resident coordinator to Moldova meets Moldovan parliament speaker

Chisinau, 11 December /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Corman today had a farewell meeting with UN Resident Coordinator, UN Development Programme Resident Representative to Moldova Nicola Harrington-Buhay, who ends her diplomatic mission in Moldova, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The parliament speaker thanked the United Nations for its support for Moldova, especially the parliament, in strengthening institutional capacities. Igor Corman appreciated the backing and active involvement of Ambassador Nicola Harrington-Buhay in implementing parliament initiatives to bring the legislative institution closer to the citizens. It is about the implementation of the pilot project on opening of four regional information offices of the parliament in Comrat, Orhei, Edinet and Leova, as well as the organisation of two issues of Open Doors Day at the parliament.
The officials also discussed the results of the 30 November parliamentary elections and priorities of the new government, including the implementation of the Association Agreement and the involvement of civil society in this process. "We need consensus in the parliament and the citizens’ support. Dialogue is the best solution in every situation. We need to find additional opportunities to strengthen communication both with citizens and between state authorities", said the parliament speaker.
Another topic was focused on cooperation between the Moldovan parliament and the United Nations. In this context, Igor Corman and Nicola Harrington-Buhay referred to the need for technical expertise for the new specialised committees of the parliament, that would facilitate the transfer of best practices in the important sectors for Moldova, the institutional parliamentary capacity building, respectively.
Igor Corman wished Ambassador Nicola Harrington-Buhay success in her work, expressing hope that Her Excellency would continue to be close to Moldova.
