Moldovan economy records surprising 4.7-per cent growth in first nine months of 2014

Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - The economic growth amounted to 4.7 per cent after the first nine months of 2014, following a surprising rise of the GDP in the third quarter, especially backed by the agriculture and services. In these conditions, the economic growth for the entire year might stand at almost 3.5-3.7 per cent.
Data by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), made public today, shows that, in the third quarter, the economy made a leap of 5.9 per cent against the same period in 2013, a rise which exceeded the most optimistic estimations both of analysts and authorities. Most pundits were expecting an annual rise of two per cent, whereas the Economics Ministry maintained its forecasts at 3.5 per cent.
„The figures announced by BNS are comparable with our optimal variant of forecasts, 3.7 per cent, which we subsequently revised against the background of restrictions imposed by Russia and crisis in the region,” the head of the Economic Researches Institute, Alexandru Stratan, said.
„Frankly speaking, we did not expect a new increase of the agriculture after the last year leap. The evolution of the transports also was beyond expectations as well. Even if we revised the forecasts in diminution to 2.0 per cent, we should be happy that it does not com true, and the economy is on a bigger plus than we have anticipated,” Stratan said.
The GDP's gross advance in July-September was of 5.9 per cent and the adjusted one was 5.7 per cent at compared to the third quarter of 2013.
It is for the second quarter in a row that the economy records increases against the previous quarter, after a decrease was noted in the first 3 months of 2014. The Gross Domestic Product rose to 81.7 billion lei in the first nine months of 2014.
The gross added value produced in the goods sector increased by 6.8 per cent in the third quarter compared to the same period of 2013. The statisticians also specify that the gross added value produced in agriculture, hunting economy, forestry, fishing and industry exceeded by 8.2 per cent, respectively, the achievements of the same period of the last year and influenced the GDP’s growth by 5.6 per cent.
According to BNS, the gross added value produced in the services sector increased by 4.8 per cent against the same period of 2013, 11.4 per cent in constructions, 6.2 per cent in wholesale and retail trades, 4.5 per cent in transport and communications.
