Chisinau, 16 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan agri-food sector has benefited from EU’s financial and technical support over the past three years, within a twinning project, meant to adjust thew vegetable products to the European standards. The project’s results were presented at a summing-up conference today.
Among the achieved results, there were: the optimising of the legal framework and institutional structure of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA), improving efficiency of a programme on pesticides monitoring, training ANSA staff, etc.
At the conference, incumbent Agriculture and Food Minister Vasile Bumacov said this project was an „exemplary, useful and extremely interesting one”.
“As criterion of participation in this project was involvement of partners with the best experience in food safety, such as colleagues from the United Kingdom or Lithuania,” Bumacov said.
Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said the project’s goal was not only to adjust the products to the European standards, but also to make Moldovans trust the quality of products they consumed.
The concerned project started in April 2012 and will end in December 2014. Its overall budget is over one million euros.
