Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/ - Agricultural producers from Moldova will be able to export a larger quantity of fruits to the European Union against the amount foreseen in the Association Agreement. The European Parliament adopted a resolution to this effect today.

Under the document, Moldova will be able to export up to 40 thousand tons of apples, ten thousand tons of grapes and ten thousand tons of plums to European markets, being exempted from customs duties.

"The importance of the regulation approved today represents a sign of solidarity in a difficult context. This is a new beginning for a vital sector of the Moldovan economy," said Rapporteur Sorin Moisa after the vote.

Tariff contingents are retroactive as from 1 August 2014 and will be applied by late 2015. The overall imports from Moldova to EU accounted for 0.1 per cent of the Union's imports in 2013.

The European Parliament adopted the document with 551 pros today.
