Moldovan, German officials broach EU integration

Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Acting Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman met German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on 17 December, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s communication and media relations service has reported.
The agenda of talks included issues of the bilateral cooperation, Moldova-EU relations and evolution of the post-electoral situation in Moldova.
The German official congratulated for the success of pro-European parties at the 30 November polls. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the pro-European path of Moldova's development, in the context of strengthening the partnership ties with the EU member states, including Germany.
A special topic was focused on ensuring continuity of Moldova’s European integration. The German side reiterated the support provided to Moldova and welcomed the achievements recorded in the relationship with the EU. Gherman thanked for Germany’s support for developing the relations with the EU and carrying out the reforms. At the same time, the Moldovan official underlined the urgent needs in modernising the country, pointing out the deepening of reforms in the justice sector, development of the economy and trade potential of the country. The sides identified concrete ways of involving German partners in the above-mentioned fields. Natalia Gherman insisted on the increase of the German investment flow in the national economy, in order to create new jobs. She invited the European partners to turn to good account Moldova’s potential, including by enforcing the provisions of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement.
Also, the sides exchanged opinions on the latest developments in the region, as well as in the Transnistrian conflict settlement. Gherman highlighted the importance of ensuring continuity of German support in ensuring peace and sustainable stability in the region.
