Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/- The Moldovan police will have opportunity to be part of the international community of collection and analysis of information on combating crime, due to a cooperation agreement signed between Interior Minister Dorin Recean and Europol Head Rob Wainwright today.
Recean said that, so far, the cooperation of Moldovan police with Europol had not been so extended and had been carried out via a liaison officer.
"Due to this collaboration, in 2014, the law-enforcers managed to annihilate the Patron group, that was dealing with illegal trafficking of cigarettes; to combat forgery of identity documents and fight the organised crime against citizens of Moldova and Ukraine legally working in EU," Recean pointed out.
For his part, Rob Wainwright said the agreement meant that Moldovan police had made progress and was willing to become part of an international community of fighting crime.
Europol is the law enforcement agency of the European Union, with headquarters in the Hague, the Netherlands.
