Moldovan PM, top EU official address reforms, ties, cooperation

Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Iurie Leanca met High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in Brussels today. The officials discussed the situation in Moldova following the 30 November parliamentary polls, priorities of the new government and Moldova’s European agenda, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Federica Mogherini urged the Moldovan authorities to speed up reforms, in order to fight corruption, have a correct justice and depoliticise the national regulatory institutions. Leanca highlighted that, to achieve all priorities, the Moldovan authorities counted on foreign partners’ support.

The officials analysed the calendar of the Moldova-EU ties and the Moldovan authorities’ intention to submit an application on joining the European Union. „The getting of the statute of candidate to accession will boost reforms and will modernise Moldova,” Leanca said.

For her part, Federica Mogherini said the European Union would help Moldova advance on its European path.

Also today, Iurie Leanca met Vice-President on the Euro and Social Dialogue at the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis. The two officials tackled the developments in the political dialogue between Chisinau and Brussels, as well as the financial assistance the European Union is to provide to Moldova.
