Moldovan official attends annual conference in United States

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/- Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence Aurel Fondos has participated in an annual conference of the heads in charge of transformation processes from the allied and partner armed forces, organised by the Allied Command Transformation (ACT), held in Norfolk, Virginia State, USA, on 16-18 December.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Fondos said the meeting was aimed at exchanging successful practices in the transformation and identification of potential cooperation areas between the NATO member states and partner ones. "About 300 participants approached issues relevant for the transformation process, as well as achievements of programmes implemented by ACT. In this context, special attention was paid to NATO initiatives: „Connected Forces Initiative” and „Smart Defence", he noted.

Fondos also added that the participants in the conference held in Norfolk, for the first time ever, analysed the implementation of the Defence Capacity Building Initiative and Inter-operability Platform, adopted at the NATO Summit in Wales in September. The talks were also focused on identifying mechanisms and means needed to develop and consolidate cooperation relations between NATO and its partners.

The conference has been annually organised by the Allied Command Transformation of NATO since 2006.
