Newly-elected Moldovan parliament holds first meeting

Chisinau, 29 December /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament elected at the 30 November polls holds its first meeting today. The meeting is presided over by the most elderly MP of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Eduard Smirnov.
Attending the first parliament meeting are President Nicolae Timofti, Constitutional Court President Alexandru Tanase and acting Prime Minister Iurie Leanca.
Alexandru Tanase will present a report on the results of the parliamentary elections and validation of the lawmakers' mandates. The MPs are to receive their IDs of deputy today.
Under the parliament's regulation, after the legal foundation of the parliament, its speaker and deputy speaker are to be elected. At the same time, the parliamentary factions are to be set up in ten days following the parliament's foundation.
Five parties made it to the parliament following the 30 November parliamentary elections. PSRM has most mandates -25, followed by the Liberal Democratic Party with 23 mandates; the Party of Communists has 21 mandates, the Democratic Party 19 mandates and the Liberal Party 13 mandates.
