Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/- The Orthodox Christians of old style today mark the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ according to the Julian calendar, whereas the Orthodox people of new style celebrate the Saint John the Baptist.
On the Christmas, tens of Christians today gathered at the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau. After the service, priest Tudor Borta congratulated Christians on this great holiday, urging them to be the best.
The leader of the Democratic Party, Marian Lupu, said after the Christmas service that this was a millennial feast. “On this day, we gather at the church to pray for health, welfare and peace in family. Christmas traditions are very simple – church service and holiday meal, all occurring within the family”, Lupu said.
Christmas is the third great holiday after the Easter and Pentecost. One third of the Moldovan settlements celebrated Christmas in line with the Gregorian calendar on 25 December.
