Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, accompanied by the cabinet members, laid flowers at the bust of great Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu today, event occasioned by the writer’s 165th anniversary, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
„Today we have to think about the significance and role of poet Eminescu and not only of the poetry, but especially about the importance of the prose. What he said in the middle of the 19th century, unfortunately some circumstances, and not namely unfavourable ones, also maintained in the 21st century. And, unfortunately, I found that what Mihai Eminescu also said back than is the regional situation – about our friends and non-friends. About the fact that we have to be part of the European civilisation, and here the problem does exist, the goal is, we have another mission to accomplish,” Leanca said.
Besides, Iurie Leanca also referred to the period when he was a student, when the works of Mihai Eminescu were forbidden: „I read the articles written by Eminescu in Budapest in 1985, summing it up, so that nobody back home to find out that I summed up what was prohibited in the former Soviet Union. What we have to do is to take care of Eminescu at home, but, at the same time, to promote it, he is among the few values which categorically are part of what is beautiful and important for our civilisation”.
Moldova marks the National Day of Culture on Eminescu’s birthday for the third year in a row.
On this occasion, more cultural events: launches of publications, literary-musical and dramatic shows, exhibitions, contests, presentations of documentaries are organised on 14-18 January. A festive concert and Annual Gala Awards of the Culture Ministry take place at the Palace of the Republic on 16 January.
