Former Moldovan interior minister sentenced to prison

Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/ - Former Interior Minister Gheorghe Papuc was sentenced to four years in prison to be served in the 7 Aprilie (7 April riots) file. The Court of Appeal took the decision today. The information was confirmed by Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) Head of Press Service Maria Vieru.
At the same time, Papuc was denied the right to hold offices at the Interior Ministry for a period of five years. His special rank of Lieutenant General of Police was also withdrawn.
The Court of Appeal also ruled to sentence former commissioner of the capital Vladimir Botnari to two years with suspension in the 7 April case today. Botnari was denied the right to hold posts at the within Interior Ministry bodies for a five-year period and his special rank as Major General of Police was withdrawn too.
The sentences may be appealed.
