New parliament speaker elected in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/ - A Democratic Party (PDM) lawmaker, Andrian Candu, was elected to the office of parliament speaker today. His candidacy was backed with 59 fors of Liberal Democrats, Democrats and Communist MPs.
A lawmaker out of 60 who participated in the elections was against the candidacy of Candu. The MPs of the factions of the Liberal Party and Party of Socialists said they would not participate in the voting procedure. The speaker was elected by secret ballot.
Andrian Candu was the only candidate for the post of parliament speaker.
The speaker was elected after PLDM and PDM leaders today informed that they formed a ruling coalition.
