Fourteen people sentenced for torture in Moldova in 2014

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 14 people were sentenced for torture acts in 2014, by 12 more against the year before.
Data by the Prosecutor General's Office shows that most notifications received by prosecutors relate to policemen - 282, policemen of the National Patrolling Inspectorate - 12, carabineers and border policemen - 114.
The other notifications deal with employees of the Penitentiary Institutions Department (DIP) - 80, servicemen - 18 cases, prosecution officers - 16 notes, employees of DIP's Pantera special team - 10 cases, prosecutors - five notifications, medical workers - seven cases, as well as employees of the National Anti-Corruption Centre - three notifications.
Most complainers got minor injuries in the wake of torture and a criminal file was opened after the victim had died.
