Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - The candidate for the office of premier, Iurie Leanca, today admitted the possibility of creating a coalition between the Liberal Democrats (PLDM), Democrats (PD) and Liberals (PL). The official made statements to this effect after the meeting with the parliamentary faction of the Liberal Party.
Iurie Leanca said he would ask the MPs’ vote of confidence on the government’s programme on 10 February. Leanca stated that he discussed with the Liberals not only about the vote on 10 February, but also tackled many problems Moldova faced. "I found most problems were identically or similarly approached, which shows that there is a chance of ruling the country together. I wish for a coalition of three parties to already exist before 10 February. Theoretically nothing is impossible. One possible scenario would be voting for a minority government followed by striving to create this alliance after 10 February", said Iurie Leanca. He added that talks with the Liberals would continue.
The leader of the PL, Mihai Ghimpu said that he would like the discussions not only to be carried out with Iurie Leanca but between PL, PLDM and PDM as well. These discussions should be focused, according to Ghimpu, on the same topics that had been previously addressed by the three parties. "It is known that we are not voting for the Leanca government, but the PLDM – Party of Communists (PCRM) - PD allied government, and here's the problem. The conditions remain the same: a Cabinet of Ministers is elected when you are part of it. I want the Leanca government to have the support of a PL - PLDM - PD parliamentary majority", said Ghimpu.
Previously, Iurie Leanca had held consultations on the new government’s programme of activity with civil society representatives, employers and trade unions. At least 51 MP’s votes are needed to elect the new Cabinet. Iurie Leanca was designated as candidate for premier on 28 January.
