Moldovan electoral body to organise more activities on Global Elections Day

Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) this week organises more actions dedicated to the Global Elections Day, marked today.
CEC today held an Open Doors Day for a group of students from the Institute of International Relations of Moldova. According to a press release by the institution, the action aims to familiarise young people with aspects of the Commission's work. Students had opportunity to participate in a game simulating the election day. Participants took on roles of voters, observers, media representatives and officials of electoral bodies, each fulfilling certain obligations.
At a today news conference, CEC Chairman Iurie Ciocan said that, during this week, members of the Commission and CEC employees gave a series of lectures titled „Voteaza constient” (Vote conscientiously) for students of several higher education institutions in Moldova. The public lectures were aimed at familiarise students with the legal and practical issues related to the organisation and conduct of electoral processes in the country.
The initiative to establish a Global Elections Day was launched at the Global Election Officials Conference, held in Hungary in 2005. Representatives of the world's electoral authorities established the first Thursday of February as the Global Election Day, given that most international agreements in the field of elections were signed on this period.
