Moldovan police arrest group selling drugs

Chisinau, 6 February /MOLDPRES/ - Law-enforcers seized 100 kg of hashish. The drugs were brought from Spain by a specialised group and were to be sold in Moldova and Russia. Five members of the ring were detained.
At a today news conference, the head of the General Police Inspectorate, Ion Bodrug, said that it was about a record hashish capture. Bodrug added that the drugs had been purchased at a price of 700 euros per kg in Spain. The drug's selling price was of 1,700 euros in Moldova and 2,700 euros in Russia. The group members are between 27 and 59 years old and are from Chisinau, Soroca and Ialoveni. Two of them have been previously sentenced for keeping and selling drugs.
A head of department at the Prosecution General’s Office, Nicolae Chitoroaga, confirmed that two of the detained five persons were arrested for 30 days. Following searches made at the suspects’ houses and cars, other types of drugs were also discovered. The total amount of narcotics is estimated at about four billion lei on the „black market” of Moldova.
Policemen have opened a criminal file on this case. If found guilty, the suspects run the risk of being sentenced to up to 15 years of imprisonment.
