Moldovan speaker, European officials address prosecution reform-related issues

Chisinau, 6 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today met representatives of the Venice Commission, on a fact-collecting visit to Moldova, in the context of examining a draft law on prosecution, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The officials addressed more issues on steps taken for working out the bill, including the opinions of the sides on prosecution reform concept. The sides exchanged opinions about practices of other European states as to the work of the prosecution.
Andrian Candu highlighted that the working group on prosecution reform, made up of MPs, had fully carried out its mission and worked a lot to identify solutions meant to help edify an efficient, independent, transparent, professional and responsible justice sector for the society, due to comply with the best international standards and ensure the law supremacy and human rights' observance.
„A law is necessary, which implies consistency and solidity, and the expertise of the Venice Commission and European Commission’s support will help us to change things, give a fresh impetus and ensure the modernisation of justice for the benefit of the Moldovan citizens,” Candu said.
For their part, members of the Venice Commission delegation made a short presentation of the mission’s goals and underlined the opinion of the Commission on the above-mentioned draft, due to be unveiled in next March.
