Moldovan speaker, OSCE special representative broach cooperation, reforms, support, Transnistrian conflict

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu met Special Representative of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chairman-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Radojko Bogojevic and Head of OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Michael Scanlan today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The sides addressed the next round of five-plus-two talks, which is to be set once the activities of the working groups and 1+1 format meetings resumed. The officials exchanged views about boosting the contacts and dialogue between the two banks of Dniester at all levels.
Candu welcomed the OSCE Mission’s and Serbian OSCE chairmanship-in-office’s efforts to settle the Transnistrian conflict and reiterated the willingness of the Moldovan authorities, especially at the parliament level, to engage in a constructive dialogue with Transnistrian representatives, focused on results.
Andrian Candu underlined that Moldova’s priority was the integration into the European Union and implementation of the Association Agreement with EU, which created new premises to get new modern living standards for all Moldovan citizens, without discrimination. New cooperation opportunities and joint approaches with the Transnistrian authorities may rise namely on this path, in order to implement reforms necessary for the people’s benefit.
„The boosting of communication between the two banks of Dniester has to be obtained by involving the national legal framework into the adjusting process at international standards, as well as initiating business-to-business contacts. All these may represent a good start, in the new year, for developing cooperation for the benefit of citizens of both banks of Dniester,” Andrian Candu said.
For his part, Radojko Bogojevic reiterated the need to maintain the active political dialogue within the settlement process, as well as to optimise the activity of the sector working groups. At the same time, the official assured that OSCE was ready to provide expertise and support for fostering joint contacts.
