Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today convened at its first plenary meeting of the spring session. Acting Prime Minister Iurie Leanca will ask the MPs for their vote of confidence on the government's action programme and full composition.

The meeting began with speeches by representatives of the parliamentary factions. The leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Zinaida Greceanii, said the Socialists were ready to support any initiative that would solve economic and social problems. Greceanii informed that the PSRM fraction launched the creation of an "inter-party parliamentary group for Moldova's integration into Euro-Asian structures".

The deputy leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) faction, Valeriu Strelet, said that, presently, more than ever, unity was needed to find solutions to the current problems. "We must be firm in the implementation of the agenda and Association Agreement. There is no time for hesitation. We are to apply ourselves to bring noticeable changes," said Strelet.

Violeta Ivanov, the leader of the parliamentary faction of the Party of Communists (PCRM), said the Communist MPs would be active in the new parliamentary session, and would not passively watch what was happening in the society. "Moldova has a future, yet the latter depends on our common vision and political will - which should be based on national unity", said Ivanov.

Democratic Party (PDM) Leader Marian Lupu said Moldova should continue its European path. "Stability must be the basic feature of the new government. We want to stretch out our hand to the opposition and see on which subjects we can agree," said Lupu.

Liberal Party (PL) Leader Mihai Ghimpu called for the creation of a new parliamentary majority. According to Ghimpu, Moldova is in danger. He also advocated Moldova’s rapprochement with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
