Moldovan Socialist, Liberal, Democrat MPs give opinions on voting government

Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - The lawmakers of the faction of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) have said they would not give a vote of confidence to the new cabinet. On the other hand, the Democrat MPs urged the lawmakers to prove responsibility, stressing that Moldova needed a functional government.

At the parliament meeting, PSRM leader Igor Dodon criticized the programme unveiled by Prime Minister-designate Iurie Leanca and voiced the reasons which prompted the Socialists not to back the government. Among them, there is the fact that the PSRM MPs had earlier supported the motions of censure against the Leanca I government. At the same time, Dodon reasoned his stance by the fact that "during the Leanca government, strategic enterprises were ceded, such as Banca de Economii (Savings Bank) and the Airport," the PSRM leader said.

Democratic Party lawmaker Dumitru Diacov said the failure to give a vote of confidence to the Leanca II government might lead to a worser situation than the present one. "I hope that we will convey a signal today and the citizens will calm down. For people, it is important that the country be governed, that the government deals with the problems of each citizen. I call on the MPs to responsibility, to prove that they think about the country, the citizens who voted for them once in four years," Diacov said.

The leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu, requested a break till next Tuesday. "To take a break till Tuesday, not to vote on the programme and composition of the government. The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and Democratic Party (PL)  are to sit down at the table with PL and sign an agreement by which we should give the government a parliamentary majority to take the country out of the deadlock," Ghimpu said.

The government is to be voted by 51 lawmakers to be sworn in office.
