Moldovan parliament to hold BSEC Parliamentary Assembly's meeting in June

Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan parliament will host the 45th session of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation (BSEC) on 8-10 June 2015. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu tackled the issue at a today meeting with BSEC Secretary General Victor Tvircun, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Moldova holds concomitantly, for the first time ever, the BSEC PA and BSEC chairmanship in the first quarter of 2015. At the same time, Moldova will also chair a meeting of BSEC Business People Council. On this period, a string of events meant to contribute to boosting cooperation between the Black Sea region countries are to be organised in Chisinau.

On 23-24 February, BSEC PA Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev will visit Moldova. Also on 16-18 June, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of BSEC member states will take place in Chisinau, during which the progress recorded in the first half of 2015, when Moldova holds the chairmanship, will be presented.

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, who is also Chairman of BSEC Parliamentary Assembly, said that, on the period of holding this chairmanship, Moldova t would take efforts in order to develop more regional projects, the advantages of which were to be felt by citizens of the Black Sea region states.

”Moldova will promote a calendar full of events, directed to concrete cooperation areas. The priority action directions of Moldova BSEC PA Chairmanship are to facilitate the trade and diversify joint economic activities, develop transport infrastructure, consolidate the health sector, enhance cooperation in the culture and tourism fields,” Candu said.

The officials also addressed the stage of implementation of concrete projects, such as the construction of a ring road around the Black Sea, development of maritime ways of the Black Sea, as well as the project on authorisations for road transit of goods to BSEC member states.

”Moldova became an engine within BSEC PA, and the actions we are to carry out in the first half of 2015 will give a fresh impetus to ties between the states, increase Moldova’s visibility and contribute to maintain regional stability,” Victor Tvircun stressed.

The Moldovan parliament took over the BSEC PA chairmanship for the first half of 2015, according to the principle of rotation and will give it over to the Romanian parliament in June. The BSEC Parliamentary Assembly, created in 1993, has 12 members states – Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Serbia and Ukraine.
