Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation announced its intention to develop social projects in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (Gagauz Yeri) and expand cooperation with NGOs from the region. Representative of this foundation in Moldova Matthias Jobelius made statements to this effect at his today visit to Comrat, the press service of the autonomy's administration has reported.
At a meeting with the Gagauz governor-in-office, Mihail Formuzal, Matthias Jobelius said the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation already had a good experience of working with NGOs from the region. "We launched the Citizen in his/her Place project, which is implemented in several villages of the autonomy. Within this project, we intend to teach people to unite and solve community problems together. This is one of the trends of cooperation, but we are interested to expand our presence in Gagauz- Yeri though other projects as well", said Jobelius.
For his part, Mihail Formuzal highlighted the support provided to the autonomy by the German Embassy and public organisations. "Thanks to the German aid, we have managed to develop more social and education programmes. The support provided by German foundations, sponsors and patrons made it possible to attract investments in Gagauz-Yeri worth 30 million lei. I am sure that the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation's involvement will help multiply these successes", said Formuzal.
The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation is an independent and non-commercial organisation from Germany, which aims to promote democratic values. It was founded in 1925, representing a political legacy of Friedrich Ebert (1871-1925), the first democratically elected German president. Currently, there are over one hundred representatives of the foundation worldwide, including in Moldova.
