Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM), Igor Dodon, said the faction he led would not give a vote of confidence to the Gaburici government today at the parliament’s meeting. On the other hand, the Democrats emphasised the need for a new government to be sworn in office.
Igor Dodon said that, if the new government got a vote of confidence, this would not last for long. "You have no idea what you’re getting into. Either you really do not know what you are doing, or you do so fully aware", said the Socialist leader.
The deputy leader of the Liberal Party's (PL) faction, Valeriu Munteanu, criticised the "hidden coalition between the Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party and Party of Communists". "If Moldova plunged into an economic and social chaos, those who rejected a coalition with the Liberal Party will be the guilty ones. I assure you that whatever dirty games are being played, we will not capitulate to the pressure of the today's heroes", said Munteanu.
Marian Lupu, the leader of the Democratic Party, said the election of a new government was expected by all citizens and that the Democratic MPs would vote to support the Gaburici government. According to Lupu, giving a confidence vote to the new Cabinet "will come as a strong signal of stabilisation of the situation in the country".
Prime Minister-designate Chiril Gaburici today appeared before the parliament to seek a vote of confidence on the government's action programme and full list of members. At least 51 MPs must support the cabinet, to be sworn in office.
