Moldovan PM participates in meeting on financial-banking market situation

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today participated in a joint meeting, held at the parliament. The officials discussed the situation on the financial-banking market in Moldova. Attending the meeting also were Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Moldovan National Bank Governor Dorin Dragutanu, Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Stephane Christophe Bride and Finance Minister Anatol Arapu, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

 

The officials analysed the measures undertaken by the National Bank, in order to stabilise the foreign exchange market. At the same time, the participants set the short-  and medium-term measures meant to enforce the national currency.

 

Chiril Gaburici specified that a list of actions, which were to be undertaken shortly, was worked out.

 

In the context, Dorin Dragutanu underlined that the measures taken by the bank – hardening of the currency policy, increase of the basic rate, rise up of compulsory reserves – had already produced results, and the national currency appreciated. „The Moldovan Leu will enforce and the measures to be undertaken together with the government will produce positive results,” Dragutan said.

 

At the same time, at the beginning of the today cabinet meeting, Chiril Gaburici informed that „next week, most probably on Monday, a meeting with representatives of the banks and responsible ministers will take place”, in order to address the situation in the financial-banking sector. Gaburici specified that the national currency appreciated over the past two days and this trend would continue.
