Moldovan premier's statements in beginning of government meeting

15:09 | 19.02.2015 Category: Official

"Good afternoon, dear government members,

Before starting our first meeting, I would like to point out a few important things. We have a not at all easy task, for we came to power in complicated times – both in terms of the foreign geopolitical situation, and the domestic situation. We must prove full dedication in our every day work.

An important thing is the situation on the foreign exchange market. I held talks on this subject with the parliament speaker, National Bank governor, economics minister and other decision-makers today morning. We discussed the reasons that led to this situation and set short- and medium-term plans to improve it. We will set a meeting with representatives of banks and ministers in charge next week, most likely on 23 February. Another important topic is the situation regarding exports, where we have a so-called decrease in export. I understand that we have problems with regard to exporting meat and eggs, it is about more requirements of the European Union, and we have not fulfilled all of them. In this respect, I want that, next week, we see what these requirements are and what must be done. During the last two days, the Moldovan leu slightly appreciated and will continue to drive appreciation rates up.

The second topic I would like to refer to is the situation in the oil products market. In this case, I appeal to the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) and Competition Council to make an analysis on the market and come up with comprehensive information. I also appeal to the finance and economics ministers to get involved in the process, so as not to allow abuses.

The third topic, a quite important one, focuses on the pharmaceuticals market. Mr. Minister Buga, I want to know exactly what is happening on this market and why medicines are missing from hospitals and whether these price increases are justified. Let us organize more visits to hospitals next week.

Mr. Arapu, I would like to set up an appointment with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank representatives to discuss undergoing projects next week.

Another issue is the crime rate situation in the country. Mister interior minister, I understand that you have been less than 24 hours in this office, but I ask you to take the situation in this sector under your personal control.

The fifth and final topic is related to fiscal policy and the State Budget Law for this year. Therefore, I ask you, Mr. finance minister, to expedite this important process for the country as much as possible, so that we may start considering these two important documents in the shortest time, to address our colleagues in the parliament.
