World Bank to further support Moldova's development

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - Priorities of the Moldovan government were discussed at a today's meeting of Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici with World Bank (WB) Country Manager for Moldova Alex Kremer. The two officials exchanged opinions on principal aspects of the bilateral cooperation, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of the assistance provided by the foreign development partners, including the World Bank, not only the financial one, but also via providing expertise and consultancy to Moldovan institutions. The prime minister expressed interest in continuing the cooperation with WB, including through the instrument of budgetary support for development policies.
Chiril Gaburici spoke out for a constructive cooperation, just in the beginning of the new cabinet's mandate. "We appreciate the continuous support on behalf of the World Bank, which comprises important sectors for our country. I think that the recommendations, recently worked out by the World Bank, jointly with other partners, might represent a starting point in our dialogue," the prime minister said.
For his part, Alex Kremer gave assurances that the World Bank would further back Moldova. "At present, the message of the community of development partners for the new government would one of encouraging towards resolute actions, focused on reforms and results. In this respect, the World Bank is willing to provide clear-cut medium- and long-term recommendations, to ensure Moldova's sustainable development," the WB country manager for Moldova said.
The Moldovan government and the World Bank cooperate under the 2014-2017 Country Partnership Strategy, approved by the WB Board of Executive Directors in September 2013. The projects financed within this strategy are worth 450 million dollars.
