Moldovan, German officials tackle reforms, European integration, support

Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - „The implementation of the association agenda with the European Union means reforms, mainly in the justice and fight against corruption sector, financial-banking area, public administration, as well as in the social field. It is important to ensure the functionality of the state institutions and the political talks to be kept for the future, as the citizens are looking for concrete results from the government”.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made statements to this effect at a meeting with Special Envoy for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia at the German Foreign Office Cord Meier-Klodt, on a four-day fact collecting visit to Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The officials addressed the priorities of the parliamentary agenda, economic and social and political situation in Moldova both at central and local levels, including in the Transnistrian region and southern autonomous region. The sides also exchanged views about the priority actions that were to be undertaken by the Moldovan authorities, in order to continue reforms to modernise Moldova.
Candu thanked the German authorities for the significant and unprecedented support provided to Moldova in the European integration both at bilateral level and within EU. In the context, Andrian Candu underlined that the Moldovan parliament would have a pro-active role in continuing the European path, by fully assuming the responsibilities it got, including as to adjust the national legislation to the European acquis. Candu also told about the local development and spoke out for initiating partnerships between the Moldovan and German settlements, meant to boost the involvement of local authorities in the European integration process.
For his part, Cord Meier-Klodt welcomed the swearing in office of the new Moldovan government and voiced hope that the cabinet would continue reforms started on the European integration path. The official also informed that Germany would take over the OSCE chairmanship in 2016. In the context, Cord Meier-Klodt assured that Germany was ready to further provide the necessary support, in order to enhance contacts between the two banks of Dniester. „We want Moldova to really become a successful story and develop in peace and stability,” Cord Meier-Klodt said.
