Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis held a meeting at the state residence on 24 February. The officials tackled the bilateral ties, Moldova’s European integration and regional situation, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Gaburici underlined that the Moldovan government was set to continue reforms in sectors with impact on the life of citizens: economy, finances, justice, and fight against corruption. „I desire a warm and sincere relation with Romania, we need this friendly support on our way to the European Union,” Chiril Gaburici said. He described Klaus Iohannis’ visit as a signal of confidence in Moldova’s European path. Gaburici also thanked Romania for the support provided in implementing bilateral projects and voiced confidence that the cooperation would be as good in the future too.

For his part, Klaus Iohannis congratulated Chiril Gaburici on his appointment to the prime minister office and wished him every success. „It is an interesting period for Moldova. You have a young prime minister, who came from the business area, with methods which very often also help in management and I believe it is a great chance. I wish you to be this way,” Iohannis said. Klaus Iohannis specified that Romania as state would do its utmost in order to back Moldova on its European and democratic path. „Romania continues to be firmly engaged in developing the political dialogue and concrete cooperation with Moldova,” the official said.

Klaus Iohannis reconfirmed Romania’s support for Moldova as to concrete strengthening of the pro-European line and deepening of domestic reforms. „The responsibility for ensuring this direction is up to all forces who voted for the swearing in office of the government, in sense to ensure an efficient, stable ruling, which to take into account and observe messages forwarded by the citizens during the elections,” Iohannis said.

The sides reviewed the main implemented projects, as well as those which are to be carried out in Moldova with Romania’s support. It is about the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline and energy infrastructure, modernisation of kindergartens, SMURD medical emergency services and projects on transport interconnection and reconstruction of bridges across the Prut.

Klaus Iohannis is on a two-day official visit to Moldova. On 25 February, the official is to lay flowers at the monument of Stefan cel Mare si Sfint, afterwards he will deliver a speech before the students of the Moldovan State University.
