Moldovan foreign minister opens Global Dialogue High-Level Meeting

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman today opened the Final High-Level Meeting of the Global Dialogue on Building Institutional Capacities for Implementing Development Agenda Post-2015. The event is co-organised by the Foreign and European Integration Ministry, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and International Labour Organisation, with the support of the German government, and is held on 25-26 February, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication services has reported.

Natalia Gherman emphasised the importance to create a political platform meant to promote institutional capacity building actions, in the context of the UN negotiations on Development Agenda Post-2015. „It is necessary to invest in the institutions’ capacities, in qualitative public services for citizens of all social categories, to use modern and innovative technologies as actions necessary for sustainable development,” Gherman said. 

UN Assistant Secretary General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States Cihan Sultanoglu welcomed Moldova’s commitment within the Global Dialogue and active promotion of efficient mechanisms to implement global agenda post-2015 within UN by Moldova, together with Germany. 

The meeting brings together over 100 representatives from Europe, Africa, North America, Latin America and Asia, including representatives of diplomatic corps, international organisations, civil society, employers’ union, trade unions and local authorities from Moldova. 

The participants are to approve a set of recommendations on development of institutional capacities, in order to implement the new global development agenda, which are to lay the foundation of the national actions on strengthening capacities of the public, private system and civil society as to implement sustainable development goals. 

The meeting is the final step of global consultations launched in 2014, which are meant to identify innovative mechanisms and solutions to consolidate capacities and institutions imperative for the sustainable development. The Global Dialogue was launched in the context of intergovernmental talks held within UN on development agenda post-2015 and which is to be adopted during the 70th UN General Assembly in New York, in next September.
