Moldovan PM meets more European high-ranking officials in Brussels

Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today held more meetings with Brussels high-ranking officials. Gaburici met Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok. The officials addressed the implementation of the reform agenda assumed within Moldova’s European path, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

”The European integration will be the cornerstone of the activity of the government I lead, as key priorities being to continue reforms,” Gaburici said. In the context, Gaburici specified that a significant attention would be paid to implement the justice reform, to make more efficient the fight against corruption, to ensure a sustainable economic growth and improve the banking system management.

For his part, Elmar Brok said that Moldova was a strategic country. „ Moldova passes through a complicated process of transformation of the country, it is important that you have economic, political stability and maintain the European path,” Brok said.

Also today, Chiril Gaburici met the head of the European Union-Moldova Delegation at the European Parliament, MEP Andi Cristea. Gaburici said that the government counted on the MEP’s personal support and the experience gained by the states which joined the European Union in 2004 and 2007 was very valuable for Moldova.

In this context, Andi Cristea congratulated Chiril Gaburici on his swearing in office as prime minister and wished him every success in order to fulfil the responsibilities he has. „Brussels is very interested in continuing reforms, which means the observance of the legal European aspirations of the Moldovan citizens. We, in Brussels, want Moldova’s stability, the rest resides in Chisinau’s energy and decision,” Andi Cristea said. The MEP added: „We support the creation of the Moldovan parliamentary delegation as soon as possible, in order to organise in the shortest terms the first meeting within the Moldova-European Union Association Committee”.

Gaburici also met Chairman of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Giovanni Pittela. Gaburici said that he would ensure the observance of commitments taken within the Association Agreement with EU.

Chiril Gaburici pays an official visit to Brussels on 26 – 27 February. Gaburici will also meet President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, as well as other officials.
