Moldovan farmers request authorities' intervention to improve situation in sector

Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/- Representatives of more farmer associations from Moldova today warned the serious situation in agriculture. They requested that the authorities should come with concrete actions to solve current issues. Agriculture and Food Minister Ion Sula said solutions were to be identified to help farmers.
The chairman of UniAgroProtect company, Alexandru Slusari, today said that during the last two months, the situation in agriculture had significantly worsened. "Due to the currency crisis, prices for fertilizers, pesticides, seed and spare parts increased by 30-50 per cent. Interest rates for farmers increased by over 20 per cent. Crediting the agricultural sector is practically suspended. Immediate actions are needed to be taken", he said.
The chairman of the National Federation of Farmers, Valeriu Cosarciuc, said that the farmers requested the increase in subsidizing fund and ensuring the access to a liberalized market of oil products. At the same time, they opt for transparent management of Polish credit estimated at 100 million euros and granting compensations to all producers, who delivered apples to processing plants.
Ion Sula said that the authorities together with representatives of farmers from Moldova were to identify solutions to intervene in this situation. He added that his institution opted for increasing subsidizing fund.
