Moldovan speaker, UN, UNDP representatives address reforms, European agenda, projects, support

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament speaker met UN Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States Cihan Sultanouglu and new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to Moldova Dafina Gercheva on 26 February. The officials addressed the new projects on strengthening institutional development capacities of the parliament, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Andrian Candu underlined the UNDP’s important role in implementing the reform agenda in Moldova and, respectively, in developing the parliament. In the context, Candu requested UNDP’s assistance, in order to implement new projects, which to bring the parliament closer to the citizens, increase its transparency and efficiency. Andrian Candu referred to a string of concrete projects, such as: implementation of parliamentary intranet network, use of e-governing services and document management system both by public servants and MPs.
”The European integration agenda is the parliament’s action programme for the next four years. This is why it is important UN’s and UNDP’s support in order to take over the experience of parliaments of the other states, to be closer to people, to facilitate their access to information and to increase the citizens’ confidence into the parliament,” Andrian Candu said.
Cihan Sultanouglu underlined the willingness of donor states to back the parliament and provide expertise in order to optimise the activity. ”We will further provide assistance to the parliament and we are opened for launching new projects, by which the parliament to be closer the people,” the official said.
The sides also approached Moldova’s European integration agenda, reforms implementation, and parliament’s priorities for the spring session.
At present, UNDP provides support and assistance to the parliament within the programme titled: “Improving the quality of Moldovan democracy through parliamentary and electoral support”. The programme, which is implemented on 2012-2016, will consolidate the infrastructure of parliament, will enhance the legislative activity by providing equipment, expertise, consultations, organising trainings, etc.
