Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - The implementation of the Association Agreement continues to be Chisinau’s main goal. Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici made statement to this effect at a meeting with a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs at the European Parliament, Rapporteur for the Association Agreement Petras Auštrevičius in Brussels today, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

„We are aware of the importance to implement the provisions of the Association Agreement, in order to advance on the final step of the European integration of Moldova and to get the statute of candidate, which subsequently would allow it initiating the accession talks,” Gaburici said.

Chiril Gaburici highlighted Auštrevičius’ constant interest in Moldova, which proved the real commitment to back Moldova’s European path. „In this respect, we will also count on you experience, which you got by being fully involved in negotiating Lithuania’s accession to EU, a country with which Moldova set a very good bilateral cooperation in the European integration area,” Gaburici added.

Petras Auštrevičius confirmed EU’s support for Moldova’s European path and willingness to further provide the necessary assistance to implement reforms to modernise Moldova.

Petras Auštrevičius is the author of a report on the association’s advantages and reforms carried out in Moldova, which was presented in the European Parliament in past November. Then, he was very proud with that „Moldova is among the leaders of the European partners and that it is a good example of implementation of political and social and economic reforms”. After the report heard, MEPs approved the European Union-Moldova Association Agreement with a majority of votes.
