Sweden to further back Moldova to implement reforms agenda

Chisinau, 4 March /MOLDPRES/-Swedish Ambassador to Moldova Ingrid Tersman today met Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici in Chisinau. She handed him over a letter signed  by Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven saying that Sweden would further back Moldova to implement the reforms agenda, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.

The message comprises congratulations to Gaburici on the investiture as premier, as well as the Swedish government's willingness to further fully support the Eastern Partnership member states, which have chosen European integration.

Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici reconfirmed the Moldovan government's firm determination to continue the processes in the context of European integration. He also appreciated Sweden's assistance offered to Moldova. "European integration is the only way to modernise Moldova. Thus, we will take every effort to constantly advance in this direction", he noted.

Tersman said her country would continue implementing the strategy on international assistance for the eastern European countries for 2014-2020, comprising a 100-million euro grant to carry out development projects in different sectors. "This strategy is based on results. In case the reforms in a certain field fail to advance, we will reallocate the money in other sectors. At the same time, if we see that the reforms record significant progress, we will supplement the previously expected allocations", she said.

So far, Moldova and Sweden have signed eight bilateral treaties. After the enforcement of the Swedish-Moldovan cooperation strategy in 2011-2014, more projects focused on strengthening democracy, ensuring sustainable and equitable development, as well as adjusting to EU standards, have been carried out.
