Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - More EU-member states ambassadors to Moldova paid a visit to southern Comrat town today. The officials met the candidates for the office of governor of the Administrative Territorial Unit (UTA) Gagauz-Yeri.
Five candidates and representatives of few candidates registered for elections met the envoys. The others did not honour the invitation and reasoned this by being busy with the electoral campaign.
Attending the event, Acting Governor Mihail Formuzal described the meeting as a good practice of diplomatic missions accredited to Moldova. „EU ambassadors have initiated this meeting with candidates for the governor office, in order to get informed about the way the electoral campaign is carried out and collect facts about the social and economic situation in the region. Anyone who is to be elected for the post of governor of the Gagauz autonomy will have to closely cooperate with the Moldovan government,” Formuzal said.
The first round of elections for the office of governor in UTA Gagauz-Yeri will take place on 22 March. If necessary, the runoff is planned for 5 April. Eleven candidates participate in the electoral campaign in Gagauzia.
