Moldovan parliament speaker to participate in commemoration of 25th anniversary of restoration of Lithuania's independence

Chisinau, 10 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu will participate in the events marking the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania's independence, due in Vilnius on 10-12 March, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

The Lithuanian parliament (Seimas) will hold a solemn meeting on 11 March, the day when the Declaration of Independence was signed. Parliament speakers from more European countries, diplomats, politicians and experts will attend the event. At the same time, a roundtable of discussions, titled "Small countries in the present geopolitical context: lessons of history and current challenges," will be organised.

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu will meet Lithuanian Seimas Speaker Loreta Grauziniene, Latvian Parliament Speaker Inara Murniece, Swedish Parliament Speaker Urban Ahlin, Polish Senate Chairman Bogdan Borusewicz, as well as Moldova - Lithuania Friendship Group President Sergej Ursul.

Lithuania is the first Soviet republic to declare its independence from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on 11 March 1990.
