World Bank reconfirms support for Moldova

Chisinau, 10 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici met World Bank Country Director for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Qimiao Fan today. The officials addressed the bilateral cooperation, reforms programme and development policies of the cabinet of ministers, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

 

The sides especially approached the situation in the financial sector, World Bank’s (WB) assistance provided to Moldova via the operations on budgetary support for development policies, as well as the joint projects in education, health protection and social protection. Gaburici underlined that the government was set to stabilise the banking sector, develop economy and increase incomes of citizens. Chiril Gaburici assured that the cabinet would continue reforms, including in the context of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement.

 

Gaburici said that the recommendations, included in the Policy Notes worked out by the World Bank jointly with other development partners, were very useful and important for the activity of the Moldovan government. „Some reforms have been already initiated and the support provided by the World Bank is essential for backing these efforts,” Gaburici said. At the same time, Gaburici praised the bank’s support for promoting reforms on total integration of social protection network under the platform provided by the Directed Welfare Programme.

 

For his part, Qimiao Fan reconfirmed the World Bank’s support for Moldova and underscored the importance to get progress in promoting reforms in priority areas in Moldova. 

 

The cooperation between the Moldovan government and the World Bank is carried out based on the 2014-2017 Partnership Strategy, approved by the WB Board of Directors in September 2013. The budget of projects planned to be financed within the mentioned strategy is of 450 million dollars.
