Moldovan president meets French official

Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti today met a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly, Thierry Mariani, the presidency’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Thierry Mariani informed the president about that fact that he was elaborating a report on political and economic developments in Moldova, which would be presented to the French National Assembly, in view of ratification of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union by the lower chamber of the French parliament. The Association Agreement has been previously ratified by the French Senate.
President Nicolae Timofti thanked the French lawmaker for France’s strong support for Moldova and assured that the Moldovan authorities remained committed to the pro-European reformation path. The president highlighted the importance of the justice reforms and fighting corruption.
Nicolae Timofti and Thierry Mariani tackled the current political situation in Moldova, including the state of things in Transnistria and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
The two officials also analysed the possibility of fully turning into account the provisions in the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, in order to reduce the impact of Russia's economic sanctions on the Moldovan economy.
At the end of the meeting, Nicolae Timofti and Thierry Mariani exchanged opinions on the situation in the region.
