Poland to further back Moldova's European integration

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/- Poland will further back Moldova's European integration. Speaker of Polish Senate Bogdan Borusewicz made a statement to this effect at a meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, held in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 11 March, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

Candu thanked his counterpart for the fact that the Polish parliament had been among the first legislative bodies to ratify the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, thus conveying a strong message of support for the country's European integration. In the context, the speaker thanked for the constant and active support on behalf of Poland, appreciating the special parliamentary relations between Moldova and Poland.

The officials also tackled the work of the Moldova-Poland Parliamentary Assembly. Candu said the forum's meeting would be held Krakow this spring. The Moldovan and Polish MPs are to approach both projects of bilateral interest and issues related to implementation of the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. According to the Moldovan speaker, a representative from the Transnistrian region and Gagauzia each are to be invited to debates.

Candu reconfirmed the firm determination of the Moldovan authorities to continue implementing reforms, in order to get closer to EU. "Time is ripe to switch from nice words to deeds and to implement painful, yet important reforms for the country," he noted. In the same context, Candu asked for Polish decision makers' support to transfer good practices for the Moldovan producers' reorientation towards European sales markets.

"Poland will further back Moldova's European integration. It is important to prove consistency in achieving this. Moldova was a leader in the Eastern Partnership and it should continue in the same tempo," Bogdan Borusewicz said. He invited Andrian Candu to pay a visit to Poland.

The officials also discussed the developments in the Transnistrian region and Autonomous Territorial Unit of  Gagauzia, as well as the situation in the region.
