Moldova to speed up modernisation, EU agenda implementation

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu met Latvian Parliament Speaker Inara Murniece in Vilnius today. Latvia currently holds the half-year chairmanship of the EU Council, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
Andrian Candu asked Latvia to support the ratification of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union by all member states. The parliament speaker’s message is based on the good Moldovan-Latvian cooperation, as well as the efforts already taken by Latvia to backt the European integration of Moldova.
Referring to steps taken by the Moldovan authorities to deepen political association and economic integration with EU, the parliament speaker said the Association Parliamentary Committee would soon be created, due to bring together representatives of the Moldovan legislative body and European Parliament. "On this platform, we will actively tackle the implementation of the Association Agreement, as the the committee has the right to request information from the Association Council, make recommendations and establish parliamentary subcommittees. We will make every effort to speed up the implementation of the association agenda and modernisation of Moldova," said Adrian Candu.
For her part, Latvian Parliament Speaker Inara Murniece urged the Moldovan authorities to continue reforms, noting that her country had rich experience in reforming public administration, justice sector and taxation system, Latvia was open to share with Moldova.
Andrian Candu expressed the Moldovan parliament’s interest in taking over good practices and studying Latvian legislation. At the same time, the parliament speaker sought consultancy to implement the EU acquis and transfer of best practices in terms of cooperation between the parliament and government in the process of European integration and parliamentary control capacity building.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu takes part in the events organised to mark the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania's independence in Vilnius on 10-12 March.
