Moldovan defence minister, Ukrainian counsellor-envoy discuss cooperation aspects

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - Defence Minister Viorel Cibotaru and Counsellor-Envoy of the Ukrainian Embassy in Moldova Gennady Altukhov discussed aspects of the bilateral collaboration in the military field between Moldova and Ukraine. Attending the event was also military attaché, colonel Igor Olefirenko.
The officials opted for strengthening the Moldovan-Ukrainian dialogue, as well as for initiating projects focused on exchanging experience in the security and defence sector. The talks also included issues of cooperation on the military dimension of the two countries’ armies.
Viorel Cibotaru informed the Ukrainian official about the agenda and priorities of the new leadership of the Defence Ministry, emphasising their importance for the modernisation of the security and defence area of Moldova.
The sides also exchanged opinions on the developments in the region and the impact of the recent events on the security of the two states, separately, as well as on the regional and international ones.
The Moldovan-Ukrainian military cooperation is carried out under an agreement on cooperation between the Defence Ministries of Moldova and Ukraine, signed in 1993.
