Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament and the Lithuanian Seimas will intensify their cooperation relations at the level of parliamentary committees to facilitate the implementation of the community acquis, including the transfer of expertise and best practices, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and Lithuanian Seimas Speaker Loreta Grauziniene held talks to this effect during a meeting in Vilnius.
"In two weeks the composition of the parliamentary friendship group with Lithuania will already be set up. We aim to enhance the work of this group to fully benefit from the expertise of Lithuania in terms of capacity building in the European integration process, increase transparency of legislators’ activity and computerisation of the legislative process. Lithuania has rich experience in this regard and we want a transfer of expertise to avoid mistakes and save time, "said Adrian Candu.
Andrian Candu congratulated the speaker and Lithuanian citizens on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the restoration of the country's independence, while expressing gratitude for the support for Moldova's European integration path.
For her part, Seimas Speaker Loreta Grauziniene said that her country redefined foreign policy priorities, and Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia now occupied top positions. "We support Moldova's European course, including through the appeals we make during official visits to the parliaments of the European Union to ratify the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU," said the Lithuanian official.
Loreta Grauziniene also noted that the Lithuanian legislative body accumulated extensive experience in the implementation of EU legislation and Lithuanian MPs would be happy to share it with Moldovan colleagues.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today concludes his visit to Vilnius, where he participated in events organised on the occasion marking the 25th anniversary of the restoration of its independence.
