Moldovan PM, farmers broach agricultural issues

Chisinau, 13 March /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today met more farmers and representatives of relevant associations. Attending the meeting were also Agriculture and Food Minister Ion Sula, Finance Minister Anatol Arapu and representatives of ministries in charge and specialised agencies, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.

The referred to evolutions in agriculture, effect of embargo imposed by Moscow in July 2014, ensuring access to new sales markets, as well as obstacles to faced by farmers and ways to overcome them.

The prime minister underlined that agriculture was a priority sector for Moldova and the government would take every effort to overcome the barriers in the field. "Moldova is an agrarian country and we must mobilize to find ways to new sales markets", Gaburici said.

The sides also agreed that the government should consider the discussed problems. "We established an action plan and I will follow step by step how these actions are carried out. We are to have this continuous dialogue, we set it even to be monthly, as the agricultural sector is very important to Moldova", the prime minister said.

For his part, Ion Sula described the meeting with the farmers as very good. "I would like to mention that reactions have been given to certain problems immediately. In terms of sectoral issues, along with colleagues from the Agriculture Ministry and government, we will come up with certain answers to the farmers".

According to official data, one third of the Moldovan residents work in the agricultural sector, and in 2014, the share of agriculture in GDP stood at 12.3 per cent.
