Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/ - The World Bank will provide Moldova with 55 million dollars for the restoration of local roads, starting this year. Transport and Road Infrastructure Minister Vasile Botnari and World Bank representative Simon Ellis made statements to this effect at a meeting today.
According to Botnari, development partners will help speed up the rehabilitation of local roads “which, due to the chronic lack of funding, have reached a very poor condition."
"We managed to identify sources of internal financing to start repairing roads between villages, to provide residents access to the main social units. We also need the support of development partners to make more progress in this respect," said Vasile Botnari.
For his part, Simon Ellis said that the team of consultants, appointed to select the roads for rehabilitation, had started working and that he hoped that these projects would be given the final touches as soon as possible.
At a press conference in early March, Vasile Botnari said that contracts for the rehabilitation and construction of 330 kilometres of roads worth 287 million euros would be signed this year.
