Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova's security and defence sector needs a comprehensive reform on all dimensions. Defence Minister Viorel Cibotaru made a statement to this effect at a working meeting with Swedish Ambassador to Moldova Ingrid Tersman.
The minister said that, in achieving this goal, the institution counted on the backing of European partners, including Sweden. Viorel Cibotaru also said that Sweden was an example for Moldova of participation with troops, in its capacity of unaffiliated country, in international peacekeeping operations, as well as in operations of building and efficient work of a modern defence system.
For his part, Ingrid Tersman said that Sweden was willing to support Moldova's security and defence sector, along with other areas in need of being adjusted to the European standards.
The Moldovan-Swedish cooperation in the military sector provides for also training of National Army servicemen, starting from 2004, within courses organised by the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre (SWEDINT). So far, about 20 National Army representatives have taken part in such courses in Sweden.
