Romania-Moldova trade exchanges increase by one billion dollars in 2010 – 2014

Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/ - The trade exchanges with Romania, Moldova's largest foreign commerce partner, increased by almost one billion dollars, up to 1.6 billion in 2010 - 2014. "Thus, the bilateral trade volume of both countries recorded an unprecedented increase of almost 250 per cent against 2010," according to a statement by the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau.
"Moldova ranked second in exports, with a share of 24.8 per cent, and fourth in imports, with a share of 6.7 per cent" among Romania's trade with countries from Eastern Europe in late 2014.
According to the statement, the bilateral trade grew by 16 per cent in 2014 against 2013. Exports amounted to over 1.1 billion dollars and imports - 500.13 million.
The information spread by the Romanian Embassy also includes data on trade changes with the Transnistrian region. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Romania consolidated its leading position among the top trading partners of Moldova, by going up in September after an increase of Moldovan exports to the Romanian market by 5.6 per cent and imports by 11.2 per cent in 2014.
This is for the first time ever that Romania outran Russia among top countries with which Moldova has trade relations. Many manufacturers reoriented to the Romanian market after Moscow had put bans.
