Moldovan tourism agency develops programme to promote country's brand

Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Tourism Agency has developed a programme to promote Moldova’s tourism brand, which will be widely implemented by late 2016, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Competitiveness Enhancement and Enterprise Development II (CEED II) project (USAID CEED II).
At a news conference, Tourism Agency Director Nicolae Platon said that, after the approval of the new country brand, the Tree of Life symbol, in 2014, all the actions of the institution were focused on promoting the natural and human potential of Moldova.
"The elaborated programme includes description of the current situation in tourism, shortcomings and development prospects, Moldova’s tourism offer showing the main attractions," said Platon.
According to him, the first International Tourism Forum in Moldova will be held in next April. Attending the event will directors of tourism agencies from different countries and wine tourism will be promoted.
"The Wine Road, cultural tourism, monasteries road, cultural jewels will be the first routes proposed to foreign tourists," said Platon.
USAID CEED II project manager Sergiu Botezatu added that the United States had been backing the development of the tourism sector in Moldova since 2012, as "tourism has a great importance in the development of a country".
Moldova’s tourist reception structures osted around 90,000 tourists throughout 2014, mostly from Romania, Ukraine and Russia.
