Moldovan deputy premier meets new UNDP resident representative

Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov met new United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Dafina Gercheva today, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

Osipov stressed the importance that UNDP implements the programme on support to confidence building measures between the two banks of Dniester. The first phase of the this programme, financed by the European Union, is finalised in March and, practically, they switch to the project’s second stage. 

In the context, Victor Osipov said: „More actions have been implemented over three years: at least 200 small and medium enterprises benefited from assistance, new businesses were supported and new jobs created, over 40 social infrastructure projects were implemented. At the same time, partnerships between the communities of the two banks of Dniester, both in the social and business areas, were established. All these achievements had a favourable impact on the living standards of residents from the two banks”.

Dafina Gercheva underlined that the UN’s team, as programme’s implementer, as well as in the wider sense of the assistance it provided to Moldova, would continue the efforts to provide Moldovans with a better living.

Osipov praised the level of cooperation between Moldova and UN and thanked for the support provided by the organisation in the Transnistrian conflict settlement.
